Parris Island South Carolina, Feb. 1964
I Reported To United States Marine Corps Recruit Depot , Parris Island South Carolina Feb. 5th. 1964.
On 29 April 1964 After 13 Weeks Of  USMC Boot Camp Under The Guidance Of The Above Drill Instructors Of Platoon 117 , I had  Finally Achieved My Longtime Goal Of Becoming A United States Marine.

Camp Pendleton California

While With The 1st. Bn. 7th. Marines,The Division's "Raider" Battalion, We Underwent Extensive Combat Infantry Training. Included In The Combat Training Was "Rubber Boat" Training Off The Coast Of San Clemente. There We Would Disembark From Navy Ships A Few Miles Offshore And Paddle  In Total Darkness To  A Quiet Beach  Landing , After Which We Would  Then Patrol Inland To Our Objective Which Was Usually  An "Enemy" Basecamp Occupied By Marine Recon Or Other Marine Units From 1st. Marine Divisoin.
The Battalion Also Participated In "Cold Weather" Training  In The Sierra  Nevada Mountains Of Pickle Meadow, Bridgeport California. There We Leaned To Patrol  In The  Very Thin  And Very Cold Mountain Air While Wearing Snowshoes And Heavy Backpacks . Needless To Say That Took Some Getting Used To.
Add To The Above Training  Several Months Of Training In The Near Desert Mountains Of Camp Pendleton , Including  "Wet Net" Beach Landings From Navy Ships , And You Get Some Idea Of The Versatility Of  U.S.M.C. Training.
Marine Barracks U S Naval Base Key West Fl. March 1965
I Spent 15 Months At what Had To Of Been One Of The Top Post In The World , Marine Barracks , Key West  Florida . I Served With Some Outstanding Marines And Made Many Friends , Most Of Whom Later  Served In The War In Vietnam .  Some Were "Killed In Action" , And Others Were Severely Injured In A War That We Were Not Allowed To Win.
I Served In Vietnam As A Team Leader , Squad Leader , And Platoon Guide With  Lima Company , 3rd. Battalion , 3rd. Marines ( L/3/3 ) From September Of 1966 Until  I Was Wounded In Action  21 August  Of 1967 . I Was Medevaced To The U.S. Navy Hospital , Philadelphia Pa. Where I would spend the next 8 Months
